Note before I begin: everything I am consuming at this point is organic, except for the ginger root. Also, for those that did not follow the links, the 15-day plan starts out with five days of mixed solid and liquid meals then does ten days of just juices, so I have these five days to
Before breakfast, I made a hot water, ginger, and lemon concoction to kickstart my liver, which was actually quite good.
Breakfast consisted of a berry-apple bake, but since we don't have a working oven right now, I started eating raw red delicious apples, raspberries, and blackberries (side note: I tried blueberries for the first time ever today, but was unimpressed). After eating half my portion, the apples' mushy texture combined with the seeds of the berries got to me, so I decided to try and give the combination a go as a juice.
My berry-apple juice with a hint of cinnamon
I drank about half of the juice but didn't feel hungry enough to finish it. The overall taste was good, but the raspberries overpowered the rest of the flavors.
After breakfast I took my official before photos.
I have a long way to go.
Lunch for me was really at dinnertime and consisted of a mean green juice and a mixed green salad. I wanted to quit after taking my first and so far only drink of the juice.
It may look like green beer in this pint glass, but it sure didn't taste like it.
I think the big failure with this juice was when I was preparing it for my family to share I didn't notice the recipe said it yielded two servings, so I made approximately six servings instead of three. The taste was overpoweringly cucumber and kale; I didn't get very much of the celery, apple, lemon, or ginger flavor. I will have to fiddle with the proportions to even out the flavor because theoretically I have to have one of these everyday.
The salad, considering the fact I loathe salads normally, wasn't too bad. The main failure was the addition of green cabbage. Mistake! For the most part, I didn't mind the lettuce and spinach, but the chard was a little strong. What really helped was the olive oil, garlic, and italian seasoning, which made the few bites I choked down palatable.
To prevent starving and to even out my blood sugar (which at that point had severely affected my mood), I had a banana, but since only one was ripe enough, I have resorted to a little cheating: home-popped popcorn with olive oil and a little sea salt. I stand by the fact corn is a vegetable and ignore the truth it is a grain, for tonight at least.
Notes for the future:
- play with the proportions of the green juice
- get some organic ginger root, non-canned black olives, and red cabbage
- start exercising! (at least yoga!)
- wake up at a reasonable hour/fall asleep before 2:00 am

Well done! Proud of your efforts.
ReplyDeleteAs others have said elsewhere, it will get easier, but that's hardly fun! If there's any advice I can give (might be redundant), it's that a routine will help a lot.
You can use this time to walk and/or yoga every day and after 30 days of it, you'll be doing it without the battle every time.
Structure helps overcome that stupid primitive part of your brain that says "Be lazy."
Anyway, good luck (though you don't need it!)!
Love,
Marc
