As will soon be usual I had my hot water/ginger/lemon concoction before breakfast and again liked it.
For breakfast, I made up a carrot and apple juice using three red delicious apples and six carrots and drank 3/4 of it before feeling too full to continue (the rest went to my dad, so no worries about wasting precious juice).
Mmmm, juice for the road.
The combination of carrots and apples was delicious! I see this juice being a staple, and, according to the Gerson Therapy, it is one of the best juices for me.
I drank this while driving to visit my dad's insurance booth at our local flea market and, while I was there, picked up some organic granny smith and fuji apples. Then, on the way to and from Jungle Jim's with my mom, I snacked on more baby carrots.
We took home a big haul of organic yumminess from Jungle Jim's, including seven varieties of apples, red cabbage, ginger (we found organic! yay!), more carrots, avocados, kalamata olives, sweet potatoes, red potatoes, spices, raw cacao powder, vegetable broth, and a banana to stave off hunger.
While there I checked out the "Herb'n Jungle" section for an alternative to traditional deodorant (I went without yesterday because I no longer wanted to poison my body with aluminum) and found a brand whose first ingredient was coconut oil!
Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap and now solutions lavender scented deodorant
The deodorant's only negative for me is the strong lavender scent (I've never been a huge fan of lavender or rosemary), but despite the fragrance I absolutely love it. The best thing about it is the powder texture, so it feels like a "real" stick of deodorant instead of the wetness of a gel or roughness of a mineral rock (I started off trying one of those since I couldn't stand my parent's natural gel deodorant, but its effectiveness wore off quickly while packing up my apartment). I applied it in the parking lot and haven't had a complaint (other than the strong smell of lavender).
The soap pictured is Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap, almond scented, that I found at my local Kroger along with a big bottle of almond scented liquid castile soap to use for my hair. From now on I want to not only eat organically but use organic personal items as well. There's no point in abusing my skin with toxins and heavy metals when I am trying to detox.
For dinner, I pan fried the red potatoes and some garlic in olive oil as a transitional step into making vegetables delicious to me. Tomorrow night I will use the same treatment with the sweet potatoes and see how I like it.
There's been no noticeable outward changes yet, but I am expecting those to come with the only juice part of the reboot. Emotionally, today was far better than yesterday; no severe drop in blood sugar to spur on sadness.
Notes for the future:
- drink more juice! I still need to adjust the mean green juice
- eat more nutritious vegetables
- more exercise! (we walked around the vastness of Jungle Jim's for a couple hours today)
- experiment with the nine varieties of apples to find a good balance of sweet and tart juice
