Day 3

3 days down! Woohoo!

I think I must have been craving smooth foods or more protein because this morning I woke up craving nuts, which I won't be able to have until after my juice fast. I know when I slacken off the restrictions of just fruits and vegetables I will be in heaven eating peanuts, almonds, walnuts, brazil nuts, cashews, pistachios, pecans, and any other nut I can find and will probably have a higher appreciation for beans.

The hot water/ginger/lemon concoction is getting more and more drinkable.

Breakfast was a carrot and apple juice utilizing red delicious, ambrosia, and autumn greeting varieties, which turned out delicious! I believe due in part to using less carrots and more apples, but I drank it down quickly.

Taken a minute before the juices separated

I know for a fact the carrot-apple juice will become a staple and quick snack fix.

Lunch was another try at the green juice, and now I really know why they call it a mean green. There were no cucumbers left over from Saturday, so I made up for it with romaine lettuce, red leaf lettuce, and spinach. I also reduced the kale and increased the apples (green golden delicious this time), but the problem was with the amount of ginger.

Quickly poured into a water bottle to avoid the smell

The juice without cucumbers yielded far less liquid, so the ginger was way out of proportion. Drinking this burned my throat more than bathtub gin ever could. Only willpower and a water chaser after every swig made me power through all five ounces. I doubt I'll ever find the perfect combination for the green juice without diluting the vegetables with lots of apples. Otherwise, it will be awful drinking one of these a day.

Dinner was sauteed sweet potatoes. As a preface, whenever my mom served sweet potato casserole at Thanksgiving, I only ever ate the toasted marshmallows, so while I wanted to like them I knew I most likely would not. I tried some plain, with garlic, with cinnamon, and finally mashed by fork with lots of raw agave and more cinnamon, but, alas, the underlying sweet potato flavor could not be masked. Perhaps in a month I will try again.

As a family we attempted to walk the levee that runs through the Lawrenceburg area but were greeted with light then heavier rain after only a quarter mile. Yoga was also ruled out because of the rain (we only have hard wood floors in the house, so without a lot of padding underneath the mats yoga is painful indoors).

My real dinner was baby carrots eaten while trying to find organic sheets for my bed to match my newly painted walls. Sadly, Target was sold out of king size in the color I wanted (I sleep on a queen size waterbed, so I have to use a king fitted or flat sheet), and no other store we checked in town carried organic sheets.

While out and about, I also looked for some organic vegetable chips/straws/etc, but none were to be found, only non-gmo naturals. Instead after playing some poker with my folks, my mom popped some popcorn for us to munch on before bed.

All in all, a pretty successful day by my standards.

Notes for the future:
  • more apples, less ginger for the green juice
  • more exercise, earthing, and yoga!

  1. I love reading your blog. I can't follow the heavy greenery because of the stinkin' Warfarin rat poison I have to take, but I'm gleaning info from your posts. Your dear mother also heavily educated me during my bad sick months. You guys are motivating me to tighten up my diet. Keep it up!
